I recently got a call from an elderly couple in Bournemouth whose UPVC front door was stuck closed but the key was turning and they couldn't open it. They were worried it was going to be expensive as they'd been told its probably mechanism failure.
Rather than guessing over the phone, I offered to pop round to their home in Ensbury Park and take a proper look. Within minutes, I could see it wasn’t a failed lock mechanism or anything drastic — just a dropped UPVC door that had dropped over time along with recent temperatures finally stuck. A bit of realignment, some lubrication, and a full lock service later, and it was working like new.
Upvc door problems are common, to keep these to a minimum I recommend a little maintenance ( just one a year ).
No new parts. No big bill. Just honest locksmith work and a bit of care.
It’s why I don’t like to diagnose lock problems over the phone. Every door, lock, and situation is different — and sometimes the best way to help is simply to turn up, have a look, and do what’s needed.
If your UPVC door won’t lock / unlock properly, feels stiff, or you’re worried it might need replacing, don’t assume the worst. It might just need a quick adjustment — and I’m always happy to take a look.
